Paris Fashion Week: Raf Simons Spring Summer 2008 Menswear Runway Review
July 14, 2007
For Spring/Summer ‘08 Raf Simons toyed with color and proportion.
The collection ran the gamut of color incorporating an extremely varied palette. Everything seemed multi-colored down to shoes.
The designer had a thing for new proportions and silhouettes. Shirts dropped to thigh and even knee-length in one particular case. One of the most innovative looks we saw were bubble shirts that ended around mid-thigh.. The silhouette was reminiscent of the bubble skirts for ladies from previous seasons. Simons’ take brought the look up top in shirt form with drawstring closures.
Indeed, it seemed Simons was abducted by ‘the Drawstring King’ and forced to peddle them on the innocent menswear industry. The drawstring mad collection pushed the cords on nearly all looks. From shirts to jackets to pants he played with the pull and tightening of fabric to create new shapes.
The use of texture and gloss was also used in the collection.
