Gucci’s Frida Giannini knows how to party it up. Not content to show her cruise collection in New York, she packed her bags and headed to Rome to present Gucci’s cruise collection.
Tuesday night Frida Giannini threw a big bash marking the 70th anniversary of the famed Gucci boutique near the Spanish Steps. The event began with a presentation of the designer’s 2009 cruise collection, usually shown in New York.
The event threw more spotlight onto Rome Fashion week as the event was the buzz of the Rome couture “AltaRoma” week that ended Thursday. The five goddess gowns that closed the snappy jet-set show are in honor of Rome and will only be available in the Via Condotti boutique.
Giannini wanted to pay tribute not only to her birthplace, but to the Roman school where she got her fashion education, The Academy of Costume and Fashion, and to her first job at Fendi, founded by five Roman sisters.
Rome sponsored the fashion week as they are seeking new ways to promote the “made in Rome” label. One idea has been a permanent venue for the shows, a fashion department of Rome’s city university to educate future designers.
